Red Hibiscus

Plant Details

Common Name: Hibiscus

Botanical Name: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis.

  • The genus name Hibiscus is Greek for "mallow". The species name rosa-sinensis, is literally "rose of China" indicating the plant's origins in Asia rather than in Hawaii.

Plant Description:

  • An evergreen shrub. The height varies, flowers can be single, semi-double or double. They come in red, pink, orange, yellow and white. The leaves are dark green and glossy with a paler reverse.

Orange Hibiscus

Hibiscus today is very popular as an ornamental plant in most warm countries.

The original red-flowered plant has undergone tremendous development, hundreds of variety are now available, some with double or semi-double flowers in all different colours.

I have seen miniature hibiscus which are ideals for pots or small gardens. Hibiscus can be use as a pot plant, hedge for privacy screen, it will be nice at the poolside and adds a strong colour in a tropical garden.

Hibiscus are easy to grow, they like full sun and well-drained soil. Here in Australia, hibiscus are sold in the nurseries particulary in summer and autumn when plants are at their peak.

One thing I like Hibiscus is that hardwood cuttings can be used to propagate new plants.

Hibiscus is a great plant. It is widely used to treat MIGRANES.Eat it early in the morning (raw)for 15 days.It can also be used to get silky hair.make a paste of it and apply on the hair, leave it for half an hour and wash to discover unbelievingly smooth, shiny hair
