Pittsburgh - It has something for you

There are many things in Pittsburgh that you can do. It's a family city, a city for parties, night clubs, zoo's and watersports there is even a great amusement park here that you can visit. Take a ride on the Gateway Clipper and see the city by water.

It has 3 rivers that meet together at the point where you can sit and relax.

Take a trolley ride through the city.

Getting there is easy, plane train or automobile will get you here. They all make a stop in Pittsburgh.

Natives in Pittsburgh has their own language. Most of the time only True Natives understand what we are talking about. If you visit Pittsburgh, here are some key phrases you may encounter and the definitions, this way you will know what is being said.

Directions:

Redlights: We don't notice traffic lights in Pittsburgh. We have Redlights. So if you ask for directions, we will tell you to go 3 redlights make a left and turn right at the next redlight. Now pay attention: we don't count flashing yellow lights. They are ignored.

Left - You gotta be careful with this one. This may not mean make a left. Sometimes we use left as the past tense of let. So we may say "He left me go to the store". :)

Yunz - simialar to Y'all.

Worsh- Wash

The Tubes. Tunnels - Pittsburgh has the Liberty Tubes - but the other tunnels are Squirell Hill Tunnels. No one ever calls it Squirell Hill Tubes.

Stillers - Our Famous football team the Steelers!

Slippy - While most people call it slippery, we never use this word. It's always slippy.

Putzie - we putzie around in Pittsburgh. When we are fixing things we will say "we're just putzing with it" meaning puttering.

Nuuuh - means no. But pittsburgh People will really stretch this word out to more than one sylable.

Melk- Milk

Meer - Mirror. Please don't think that we can say this the way everyone else does, we can't.

Nebby - nosey. No one ever uses the word nosey. It's ALWAYS nebby.

member - it is the same as remember. But we don't take the time to say the whole word.

Gum band - this is a rubber band.

Gutcheez- underwear

Drug - no you can't get this at a store. It's the opposite of drag.

Doohickey- anything you can't think of what its name is was called a doohickey.

Crick. (correct spelling Creek) we don't have creeks we have cricks.

We red things up before company comes. Meaning we cleaned things up.

We have jaggerbushes.

We eat jumbo bloney. Most of the we just call it jumbo. They know what we mean. (bologna)

Old grannies still wear babushka's on their heads.

Black and Gold is the only colors we know.

We eat chipped ham bbq's.

If someone made us mad, they were called a jagoff.

If you order an I C someone will get you an Iron City Beer. Of course they would pronounce it as Arn Citty bir.

Baffroom - bathroom to most people.

When we were bad as kids we didn't get paddled, we got lickens.

If you worked 11-7 or the graveyard shift you worked nighturn.

We ate pigs in the blanket, and everyone loves stuffed cabbage.

We had raadiators in cars. (with the Long A sound)

So with a few lessons you too can learn to speak Pittsburghese.

Steelers Football team has made Pittsburgh their home for many years. Everything in Pittsburgh relates somehow to the Steelers. We are proud Steeler Fans there.

Pittsburgh PIrates Baseball. They play in Heinz field when the Steelers aren't.

Duquesne Incline - Take a ride up the side of Mount Washington. See the City from the top. This ride is awesome, ride a trolley car up the side of the mountain to see more than you ever expected to see. If you liked this one you will also want to ride the Monongahela Incline.

Gateway Clipper Party Boat - Ride the cruise boat and see the 3 rivers where they join in downtown Pittsburgh. Enjoy dancing and meals while on the boat.
