Parish Nurse of New York
46Family
I reach out to the community through a program in my church called Parish Nursing. The American Nurses Association calls this a Faith Based Organization. What are the needs of my community?
For one, they need health screening. Many people are finding it too expensive to seek such health care. Many people just do not take advantage of the health care system. I have found that my community is comfortable with having blood pressure screenings at my church. I tend to find new cases of high blood pressure. Then, the person is concerned enough to consult with a physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. This is very important because they can prevent heart disease and stroke by lowering their blood pressure. Also, diabetes prevention and management is an important issue to the people I serve!
I am very happy that people take advantage of my screenings. It is FREE!
I would like to see more Parish Nurse programs in my area, state and country!
I would love to hear from you about your concerns!
Blessed Regards,
