Kopi Luwak, the world's costliest coffee, is essentially the processed excrement or droppings of the common weasel-like palm civet animals living along the regions of Indonesia, Philipines, and Vietnam. "Kopi" is Indonesian for coffee and "Luwak" the local Indonesian name for palm civets.

Palm civets consume, digest, and excrete the Kopi Luwak berries, which are then picked up by locals and sold. The civets digest only the outer part of the berries, leaving the inner part in tact. This removes bitterness from coffee beans and adds a unique flavor to them. A pound of Kopi Luwak can cost up to a whopping $600 or $50 a cup!
