If you have a sharp eye for clothing and fashion trends, you have probably noticed that UGGs are becoming increasingly popular among men.  Although UGGs first hit the world by storm when women decided to start adding them to their ensembles, the fact that men have latched onto this fashion trend shouldn't come as much of a surprise.  After all, if you look back at the history of UGGs, you will find that it is filled with manly men who have been warming their feet for years with the help of these boots.

The Long Standing Connection Between UGGs and Men

A look back in history reveals that men have been enjoying UGGs for many years. In fact, the first UGGs have been traced back to sheep shearers in Australia, who created these boots from the skin of the sheep they cared for. It didn't take long for these men to realize that sheepskin did a great job keeping their feet the ideal temperature.

The benefits soon became known to aviators, who used the boots during both World Wars in order to keep their feet warm while in the upper altitudes. By the 60s, competitive swimmers and surfers were using the boots to warm their feet after exiting the water. While the boots are still used by men for these very same purposes, they are also found increasingly on the feet of men who love fashion or who simply enjoy the comfort they have to offer.

Men and Their UGG Choices

Whereas men didn't used to have much to select from when it came to Australian UGGs, the number of options are growing at a rapid pace. In the beginning, the choices were so slim that many men felt as if wearing UGGs made them look overly feminine. Today's UGGs, however, come in such a wide variety of styles and colors that any man can find a pair he can feel comfortable and confident with wearing. In fact, some styles of UGGs look like many of the hiking boots or other boot styles that are currently on the market for men.

Of course, the fact that there are so many styles of UGGs available for men does not mean they can't wear a pair that look more like the traditional UGGs that were once worn by the sheepshearers in Australia. Many male celebrities, such as Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis, can be seen out and about wearing the more traditional style of men's UGGs. Not only do they look great while wearing them, they are also enjoying a greater level of comfort than they could achieve with any other style of boot.

The reality is that UGGs are not just for women anymore. In the world of fashion, there are few items that have managed to cross over to both sexes - and most of those have crossed over from the closet of men to the closet of women. UGGs, on the other hand, have crossed over to a new realm where men are allowed to enjoy the same style and comfort of that of their female counterparts.

Photo by Dottiebobottie Commutes in D.C. can be unusual times. You might see preachers, or musicians, people with no pants , or teabaggers on your train. A stuffed polar bear might close your station. But as used to we are to seeing odd things on our public transit system, some things can still surprise us.
