prepare your home for tax season
51Autumn is just about here and this is a good time to be winter-proofing your home. With strategic planning, you can get that money back. Last year and this year only, the IRS has added a residential energy credit for certain energy saving improvements. One of these credits, the non-business energy property credit has a $500 combined limit. It includes a $200 credit for new windows. The other credit is for quality energy efficiency improvements. This includes certain outside windows and doors including some storm windows and door. It is always a good idea to learn to navigate the IRS website. It is open year-round. The address is www.irs.gov. For the energy credits, click on individuals, then employees, scroll down to tax changes , then scroll down to residential energy credits. You can also order a Form 5695 now and plan your home improvement projects to coincide with this deduction.
