RESPONSIBILITIES: UNLIMITED.

COMPENSATION: NIL.

If moms were compensated for cleaning, cooking and taking care of their family members, they might easily earn a six-figure salary.

After asking around 20,000 moms to list their most ordinary or common tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and taking care of her child, a NGO of which I am member of, determined that value of their job responsibilities to compute what they might earn, if at all they were compensated for their efforts.

In Canada, ten most common jobs carried out by a mom who stay at home would equate out to a salary of $120,000, inclusive of over-time, and almost $80,000 for a working mom, in-addition to her original compensation.

A most common misconception is that being a stay-at-home mom is much easier as compared to working. MOMS ARE WATCHING TV, SITTING AT HOME, AND EATING BONBONS????

Other that that moms are responsible for lot of other things. Children these days lead a more hectic lifestyle than they ever did. Moms are really running the home business.

Salary computation was based on the top 10 jobs moms said they did while at home and the time they spent doing them each day. The numbers were later judge against the market-value each of the job. High-salary computation was due to a lot of over-time. Stay-at-home moms reported more than 90 hours in over-time while working moms reported that they put in around 55 hours of over-time, on-top of their paying jobs. Without the addition of overtime the average base salary for both groups, working and stay-at-home would be around $42,000.

Though I strongly feel that moms' responsibilities can never be compensated, and the above made calculations might be too low for them. What do you have to say about it??? Do write in your views.
