Windows Print Screen Key

what is Print screen? Are you one of the 1/2 million people who ask this question each month? This article has been created with you in mind, and is here to answer your questions regarding the print screen function. The Windows Print Screen Key is a very powerful tool. The problem is 99% of users don’t know how to use the print screen tool, let alone the full potential of the print screen tool.

Print Screen/SysRq

The print screen key should be located on the top row, right hand side, 3rd key in, although this is depending on the manufacturer of your Windows keyboard.

Here is an example of the print screen key on a standard windows keyboard.

Print Screen Key

Now before you run away, thinking this is too difficult, then think again. This is the easiest tool you may ever use. Unfortunately this is also the most overlooked.

I here you say, If this is so powerful then why is it so overlooked, This answer is simple, try test your print screen key on your keyboard…..tick…tock…tick…tock.

Let me guess, nothing happened right? Wrong, by pressing the print screen key you have taken a snapshot of your screen. You cannot see anything, as this snapshot has been temporally stored within your clipboard.

Now go to your start menu/all programs/accessories/ and click “Paint”.

This opens Microsoft Paint. On the left hand side you will notice some tools that look like this.

At the top right corner of the toolbox you will find the "select tool" as shown in the image above. The select tool allows you to capture part of the image,

Hold down the left button on your mouse and drag open a box around the desired area like so.

The image is an example of a selected area which in this case is the white letter a, now we want to make an image of the letter "a"

Now you have got your box around your desired image, in my case its the white letter "a" for you this will be whatever you have chosen.

You need to press Ctrl+C on your keyboard. This will copy the selected area of the image.

Now close paint.

Now open paint again with a blank screen.

Hit the "select tool" then left click on the empty canvas.

On your keyboard press Ctrl+V

You will now see the image you wanted to see, in my case the "a" as shown below.

If you are happy with the image, click on the "file" tab on the top menu bar, then click save.

For the save format use jpg, and in the name call it what ever you like. I named my image lettera.jpg.

Remember when choosing your image name, do not to use spaces, and put .jpg at the end of the name. Like, so.
