49Guidelines to professional networking
1- Network
By definition, a Network, is a system on wich several parts intervin on a small sclae, providing their contributions to obtain a larger scale result, bigger then the one they could achieve by themselves.
Probably, you´ve heard this definition also called as sinergy (the final result is bigger than the inidividual contributions - 2+2 = 5)
2- Professional networking
In our daily lives, we all enconter diferente people from diferent areas of expertise. This allows us to interact with diferent views and opinions to a same subject. But, we also share with them our knowledge, our opinions, and most important ourselves!
If we considerer ourselves as a business unit - meaning that in order to suceed we must think and act as if we were a company - we start to do what a company normally does.
This means that we start do find suplliers, and also buyers to our product.
By this time, we are thinking: "What is my product????"
Easy .... if people know us, and reconginize our talents to a particular area, they will remember us when they are in need, that´s also what we do towards them.
We all make recomendations about someone else either to help them, or to let other people know that one particular person is not reliable.
This exchange of knowledge and/or opinion is what makes a professional network suceed.
3- building your own networking
This is the easiest part....
Start tlaking with your friends and collegues (even former co-workers), always keep in touch with them (e-mail is a good option), sign in to the major online networks (linkedin, ecademy), and also set up a profile in other social networks (facebook, hi5, wayn).
Update regularly, send funny e-mails (do not SPAM, please)
Remember, that publicity is your mean to sucess, the closer you are to other people, the easier it is to them remember you.
After all, the keywords for sucess are work, work, work.....
And you should consider that promoting yourselve and your skills, is one way to sucess.... the rest is up to you!
