How to Program An All-In-One Remote
69
Programming an all-in-remote can be frustrating and time consuming. It many cases, the remote you purchase will not work with the TV, VCR or other device you are trying to hook it up to. In other cases, it will only work with some of the devices or none of them. It becomes aggravating, because something that is meant to make things easier only makes your plans more difficult.
There are a few tips and tricks to making programming an all-in-one remote easier. The first is to actually follow the instructions to the letter. Read through the paperwork that comes with the remote and try to sync it to your TV first. From there, then go through each device until it is successful. If one device does not work, stop there. Do not try to sync anything else. Chances are if one device is not going to work, you may not be able to get it to work through the traditional instructions that came with the remote.
So, take that one unsuccessful device and head onto the Internet. Pull up a search engine and do a search on the remote and the type of device. This will give you troubleshooting tips, forum discussions and other information on consumers who might have found a way around the problems you are having. If this does not help you, then perhaps the remote will not work with your configuration. If this is the case, you will want to return it and possibly try another all-in-one remote that will work with all the devices.
If after trying multiple all-in-one remotes you still cannot get your system working, you may want to invest in a smart remote. A smart remote can be programmed in more advanced ways than a standard all-in-one remote. Companies, like Logitech, create smart remotes called Harmony Remotes. These can control your electronics in a wider range than you thought possible.
