iPod Cases

When purchasing a new iPod, you should always invest in a case at the same time. While aesthetics should be looked at, you should keep the following in mind when looking at cases:

- Is the case sturdy? Does the iPod fit snugly?

- Does the case protect your screen from scratches, dust and dirt?

- Does the clasp or holder feel sturdy? Will it survive being bumped up against or will it fall off?

- If purchasing a jogging case, does the strap fit firmly? If you are moving, does the iPod itself move, too?

In the retail world, iPods are returned for one of three reasons: The consumer does not know how to use it, the iPod is genuinely defective or it is physically damaged. In the latter case, an iPod cannot be returned under any circumstance ruled out in a store's return policy. This policy will clearly dictate the item being returned must be done so in its original state out of the box. Physical damage to the iPod voids that condition of the return. So, what can consumers do to protect their iPod from physical damage? From the start, if the store you purchased it offers what is called accidental damage protection, spend the extra money and buy it. This guarantees that if done the line you damage it physically, you can get it replaced through that store since Apple does not cover that sort of damage. A lot of folks think extended warranties are a rip-off, but accidental damage coverage is a sure fire way to get a replacement when things go wrong, such as dropping the iPod or submerging it in water.

Next, purchase a sturdy case for the iPod. Depending on why you are buying it and what you are planning to do with it, you may find certain cases more appealing than others. Make sure you have a case that can withstand minor impact, direct sunlight and other physical aspects of your daily life. Even in a case, be careful carrying it in a pocket, purse or backpack. Even the slightest bang against a wall, another person or drop can crack the iPod screen or worse. Never, ever put the iPod in the back pocket of your jeans, pants or slacks. You will eventually forget it is there, sit on it and crack the poor iPod in half.

Using Plastic Protectors

Finally, the most important way to protect your iPod from physical damage is to me mindful of the unit. No matter what you do with it, treat it with love and care. This is the easiest way to protect it from the pitfalls of physical damage.
