Unfortunately at this point in time there is no known Cure for Psoriatic Arthritis. There are however a number of ways to lessen the pain and swelling associated with this disease. Most doctors and specialists recommend a multi pronged approach to treatment.

NSAIDS, also known as Nonsteroidal anti Inflammatory Drugs.

These are drugs that are for more mild cases of Psoriatic Arthritis, over the counter medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil. They are the base treatment for this type of Arthiritis. Good at helping to reduce morning stiffness, reducing swelling of joints and helping to also controlling mild pain. The problem associated with these drugs is that in some patients they can cause stomach upset. And long term usage in select patients has also been associated with ulcers and other gastrointestinal problems. Overall this is a base treatment for many patients and is less hard on the body than some of the other treatments.

Corticosteroids, These are an oral or injected type of steroid.

If you have a more painful form of Psoriatic Arthritis Muscle Pain your doctor may prescribe and inject you with these. Used mainly for joint flare up pain. You can take an oral form of these drugs or you can have your doctor inject directly into your problem areas. Injecting it directly into your affected area promises almost instant relief and will also reduce the swelling immediately. These injections are also beneficial because they increase the range of motion many patients find that is limited by Psoriatic Arthritis, after an injection the pain can be reduced for months. Unfortunately these steroids also have negative side affects and the injections can sometimes cause damage so they are not given on a regular basis, more a case by case basis decided by your physician.

Immunosuppressant medications.

Used for suppressing your immune system, this is another course of action your doctor may take. Taking these medications can help because where as normally your immune system protects your body, people that have Psoriatic Arthritis have the reverse affect. And suppressing your immune system can stop the Arthritis attacking the healthy tissue. The most common of these drugs are Imuran, Neoral, and Sandimmune. Antisuppressant drugs are only used with the most severe types of Psoriatic Arthritis because they have potentially very dangerous side affects. As overtaking of these medications has been known to cause kidney and live problems in some patients.

Surgery for Psoriatic Arthritis

This is the last and most serious form of treatment for Psoriatic Arthritis patients. It is not very commonly done, but when done it can lead to major pain relief for many patients when all other forms of treatment fail. Joint operations can be done to help to repair mobility of the joints and to ease pain. This is also done on a case by case basis, checking with your local specialist would be recommended if you were interested in this form of treatment.
