Most public school teachers send their children to private schools

The Thomas B. Forham Institute did a study in which they found that public school teachers are twice as likely to place their children in private schools than any other parent is. In fact, more than one in five public school teachers actually send their children to a private school. These statistics are even more startling whenever you look at the teachers in America's biggest cities. For example, in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and 16 other large cities, more than 1 of 4 public school teacher's children attend private schools. In some places almost half of the public school teachers do this. For instance, in Philadelphia 44% of public school teachers send their children to private schools. In Cincinnati 41% of public school teachers send their children to private schools. This stands in stark contrast to the fact that in America only 12.2% of the parents who are not public school teachers actually send their children to private schools.

You may be wondering why this is happening. Why do public school authorities tell us that they give our children a good education and yet they send their own children to private schools?

Well, in this case, teachers really do know best. They are the ones that work inside of the public schools on a daily basis. Thus, they can see the third rate, mind numbing education that our children receive. Since public school teachers love their children just as much as any parent does, they want the best for their children just like any other parent does. Therefore, it really should not be any wonder that these teachers are sending their children to private schools.

This information should serve as a red flag for parents. Take it as a strong warning sign that if your teachers are sending their children to private schools then your children probably should not be left in the public school system either. After all, these teachers are trying to tell you that something is very wrong with the public school system. Make sure that you listen to them this one time since actions speak louder than words. The fact that there are so many public school teachers who are sending their children to private schools to be educated should be all the proof that you need to look at other education alternatives for your children as well.

You may be thinking that you simply cannot afford to send your children to a private school but this is not true. There are a lot of high quality, low cost private schools available online. These schools are a wonderful new resource for you to use to provide your children with a great education at a price that you really can afford.

This is something of a general statement, is it not? Can you provide any more specific details about this study you cited? Certainly some teachers do this, but I'd imagine that many teachers don't make enough money to be able to afford private school. And many public school teachers firmly feel that public schools provide the best solution for educating the masses. They've dedicated their professional lives to building the public school system and feel very strongly that the hope for our children's future (all children and not just the wealthy) lies within that system.

I am henny. My son will be coming for an holiday in Usa for 1 month. I will want him to engage in something that will keep him busy all the time., Because Sam is a bit playful and I will not want him to play away his time. I guess coming to your place for private lessons can keep him hooked up with something. It can be sports lessons, Saxophone, Guitar, Music, Piano lessons or just any one. You just get back to me with the cost for private lesson in your home for 2 weeks. I have someone that can drive him to your place. Just get back to me with the total cost so I can make payment to you immediately before I go on a business trip to Asia. I,ll just send a cheque. I think that will be betterReply me with the total cost for 14 days tutor (1 hr daily at your convenient time)Thanks and God Bless Youhenny.

I am a public school teacher. If I had kids, I probably wouldn't enroll them in the school where I teach today unless they were in the advanced program. It is not because I do not like the regular class teachers and/or curriculum. It is because I would not want my kids around some of the kids in those classes.

As a public school teacher I endorse your hub.  The problems are not with what is taught academically, but with the scope of what is taught, the burden of bureaucracy and the lack of a good moral agenda.  I have written about this from my perspective as a public school teacher at Does Your Child Love School?

Some public school teachers send their children to private school for safety reasons. In Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore have one of the highest crime rates and most of the crimes occur in Public Schools where they teach. If those teachers send their kids to private school in those cities then those teachers should consider moving out of those cities and those teachers should consider commuting and putting their children in public schools outside of those cities.
