Puppy diarrhea is a common issue. As a dog owner you need to be careful when dealing with puppy diarrhea as severe diarrhea will lead to death. There are few causes of puppy diarrhea. Diarrhea that last for a couple of days or severe diarrhea that last for a week. You will need to give attention when your puppy is having severe diarrhea as diarrhea will contribute to dehydration and lead to death. Apart from that, severe diarrhea without treatment will lower your puppy body immune system.

There are few causes that will contribute to your puppy diarrhea. One of the causes of puppy diarrhea is due to the food that is being feed to them. The foods that you are feeding your puppy contribute to stomach upset and subsequently contribute to diarrhea. So, if you are changing the type of dog food you are feeding your pup, or giving them new food you need to watch out. Whenever this situation happened, stop feeding your pup with the particular food and observe what happen.

Moreover, puppy diarrhea also cause by vaccinations. Puppy diarrhea is due to the reactions of the vaccinations, the same case happen for your baby right?

Another cause of puppy diarrhea also cause by the parasites, viruses or worms. All the parasites, viruses or worms transmitted to your puppy body when they are interact with environment, food or their mate.

Puppy who gets excited and nervous when they are away from home will get puppy diarrhea too. As their emotion who affects their body system contribute to puppy diarrhea. You will need to be careful when your puppy are away from home or going to a new place. Normally this type of diarrhea will not last for too long!

How to treat your puppy diarrhea?

If your puppy diarrhea last for too long then you will need to bring him to the vet. Vet will provide special medicine and prescription.

If your puppy diarrhea is on the early stage and you manage to observe that, I would suggest you to let your puppy fast for 12 hours. No food and no water are allowed during fasting period in order to reset your puppy's tummy. This can be done during night time. If they are really hungry, only chicken/beef broth and white rice are allowed. Remember, no hard food. This will help to recharge their stomach and get back to normal.

If, your puppy diarrhea already last for few days, please do not try the fasting method. As, at this stage, your puppy are having dehydration and they need water. So bring him to the vet will be the best solution.

I am so glad to read your notation on changing dog food. So many owners I talk with have no idea to gradually introduce a change in their pet's diet, assuming once the old bag/can of food is gone it's time to open the new stuff. I hope in a seach that more owners find your insightful article.

A spoonful of canned pumpkin added to the dinner was a suggestion in our puppy kindergarten class. We tried it, knowing nothing major was wrong with our puppy. It worked! Just don't overuse. We keep a spare can in the cupboard.
