Puppy Potty Training In 7 Days

One of the most frustrating things about owning a puppy is that puppy potty training can be a real nightmare. The main thing that you have to remember is that your puppy is not a toddler. They do not understand that they are not supposed to relieve themselves in the home. They have been taken away from their mother and they are surrounded by people they are not overly familiar with. So they are still trying to deal with this which means that the last thing on their minds is where to relieve themselves!

It is possible to potty train a puppy in a few days; it is just a matter of knowing what to do and more importantly HOW to do it.

Potty Training Puppy

Potty training a puppy does take a general level of common sense. You need to first work out when the puppy will most likely need the toilet. It is by taking the time to get to know your puppy that will really help you to understand their toilet needs. Generally one of the main mistakes which people do make is that they do not spend enough time with the puppy. The worst thing you could ever do is bring a puppy home and simply leave it to its own devices. Yes, it might be cute and the children may love it, but it is not a toy and it does have basic needs. So you need to spend the time getting to know your puppy and taking more of an interest in what the puppy is doing.

You can usually get a good idea of when the puppy wants the toilet, although there will still be some accidents, especially in the beginning. It simply takes persistence to show the puppy what is expected of them.

Persistence is the key to any type of dog and puppy training and it is the one thing that many owners fail to do. By keeping things persistent and by reminding the puppy at all times where they should relieve themselves, the puppy will get the idea. Many owners seem to think that when a puppy relieves themselves in the home, they are doing it because they are too lazy or they do not respect your rules. However, the puppy does not have the ability to think like this and you really do need to understand that. It is purely an accident which could more than likely have been stopped if you were paying attention.

A crate may be a good option for you, especially if you need to leave the puppy for even a few minutes. And then again- a crate may be the worst thing you could do.

Do you know when to use one?

Puppies are like babies and they need looking after all of the time. If they are left on their own for even one minute it is a possibility that they will relieve themselves in the home. However in a crate they are more reluctant to do this and so that can help to potty train them.

Puppy Potty Training is certainly mainly about persistence and common sense. Know your puppy and spend the right amount of time with them and you will then know instinctively when the puppy needs to relieve themselves.

Puppy Potty Training Tip # 1: Praise

An important factor in puppy potty training is praise. Your praise and approval are more important to your puppy than practically anything else in his life.

A mere scowl out of anger can start him sulking in sadness while a pat on the head or a few kind words will set his tail wagging and put a big smile on his little face.

Young puppies respond much more quickly and effectively to praise and encouragement than they do the physical correction. Therefore, we believe that there is no place for physical punishment for any puppy... especially when puppy potty training them...
