An overview

Every computer user has had to clean their computer at some point in time. Using compressed air is the easiest way to get dust, dirt and other grime out of your computer. It does not matter if you use a desktop or laptop computer, a can of compressed air can do a lot of good.

Over a lifetime of use, computers build up dust in particular. Fans, heat sinks and other cooling units will collect this dust and it will lag the devices and make your computer hotter. By cleaning out the dust with a can of compressed air, you can make your computer run at a lower temperature as well as get the most out of your cooling units.

Buying compressed air varies state-to-state. Some states will not allow for it to be shipped, which means you must go to a store to purchase it. Cans of compressed air can cost under $10 depending on where you shop. Most electronics and home office stores sell compressed air individually wrapped or in combo packs. Check your local ads for the best deal in your town.

Once you have your compressed air, you will want to insert the small straw and then point it at the areas of your computer you want to clean. Make sure to unplug your computer first, point the can six to eight inches away from the area and hold it upright. Spray until you get the dust and grime out. Make sure to keep the can in the upright position the entire time. It may take a whole can to clean a single computer or laptop depending on how long it has been since you cleaned it out.
