Questioning Your Faith - We Have To

Really?
Really?

I come here in peace

I don't want to start any controversy regarding this vast subject of religion. I know that majority of the people have their own beliefs and I don't mean to influence anyone of you. I just have a few questions and I think they're pretty logical. I know that people would say that logic and religion are not even comparable. Some say that "just trust your faith... it's all about faith." But is it really just about faith? Why? Who said so?

There are many religions out there. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Taoists, Shintoists, Buddhists and etc. For Christianity, there are even more sectors. Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, Adventists, Church of Christ, and the list goes on and on. A simple question is, why do we have all these religions? Is one religion more credible than the other in the eyes of their God?

I'm a Deist

I'm not an Atheist. I was raised a Catholic and I still am, on paper. I believe that there is a Supreme Being that is responsible for this amazing universe and that's it. I don't believe that God is involved in human activities. He does not care about our health, our test scores, our promotions at work and socializing issues. I know that people would refute this by taking out their Holy Bibles. A question in mind is, how deep is the basis of that Bible? Are you standing by it because you were raised to stand by it? It's all about conditioning. If you weren't condition to believe one thing, you wouldn't believe it. People would defend the Bible so much as if it is the only scripture valid. How about the Qur'an? How about the Torah? or any other scriptures out there?

When it comes to being spiritual and religious, I really tried. I really tried. I went to Church, Sunday schools, joined the Legion of Mary, read the Bible, did research regarding the bible and the whole religion issue, prayed the Rosary and etc. But I just don't get it.

The Bible

The basis of the Bible is that it's "God inspired." People wrote it and the Catholic Church decided what to put in that compilation of books. Maybe the Bible are of fictional stories only to inspire people to be good and productive citizens of their time. It may be just literature. But has it become the basis of a religion. The richest club in history is the Catholic Church, with their gold spires, great cathedrals, shouldn't they give some to the poor and hungry? Okay, I know you're thinking that they do give some to the poor and hungry, but in what degree? Just a little charity when they can afford to make the world a better place by using their wealth.

Heaven and hell

How about the idea of heaven and hell? God is in charge of heaven and the Devil is in charge of hell. If you were good here on earth, you'd go to heaven. God would reward you if you go to heaven. Would he punish you if you were sent in hell? If the Devil is in charge of hell, wouldn't the Devil reward you for you did all the things that he wanted you to do? Killed, stole, and cheated? There should be a party down there. And the answer, "God is the King of the Universe," doesn't cut it. Because if He is, then why do we even have the Devil lurking around? Why is evil present? Is God playing a board game and He's bored so He made a "fake nemesis?" The Devil? Also, God would be an unfair father if He sends one of His Children in hell to rot and burn forever. That is not logical. Therefore, I simply don't believe in heaven and hell.

Judas in hell?

How about Judas? How about him being a traitor? Is he in hell? If God loves us all, why would He put Judas (Jesus' favorite) in hell? Isn't the whole thing bound to happen anyway? Judas would kiss Jesus and trade Him for some glorified currency so that the plot can continue. That's the way it's supposed to be, it's like it's scripted. Judas must betray Jesus in order for the story to go on. In order for Jesus to be crucified (although the Muslims do not believe that He is crucified.)

Humans have become arrogant

Also, human beings have become arrogant. Asking God for stuff. Asking Him to give them a promotion at work. Asking God to give them a long life and a healthy family? Why should God do all that? If He has a divine plan, He would do whatever He wants anyway and your opinion wouldn't matter. Humans have treated God as a maid. We should work for God by being good citizens (or not, whichever you prefer) instead of God working for us by giving us what we wish for. If you want a longer life, treat yourself better and eat healthy.

Other Gods, Roman and Greek?

How about the Roman and Greek Gods? Are they just vanished? No one can prove that they never existed. Maybe they have existed. No one can prove that there is a God or there is no God. The bible and the scriptures aren't good enough. They were written without God being there with them. They were written without notary. Therefore, it's not all about faith. People need to do a little questioning. We've all been conditioned to believe a faith that's why we can't get out of it.

I believe in God and that's it

Again, I believe that there is a God. I believe that He is responsible for the creation of this amazing universe. But that's it. I don't believe in religions. I don't believe that God cares about our materialistic problems and our superficiality. If God cares, why would there be poverty, genocide, wars, hatred, envy, greed, jealousy, theft, adultery, and etc. The "everything happens for a reason..." and the "it is God's will" cliche will not cut it. If God has a divine plan, then let there be the divine plan and we don't have any right to intervene in His plan.

I don't want to be controversial and please don't take this hub personally. It's just what I believe in.

Hi Ron

You've asked a lot of good questions. Unfortunately, there are not answers for most of them. I guess I look at this way. Although I sucked in Philosophy, I remember one thing ---Pascal's wager. Simplistically put it goes --- If there is no God, and we still believe, no harm has been done. If there is a God, and we don't believe, we take the chance of going to hell. Although I struggle with my faith and many of the same questions you do, if one didn't believe in God and an afterlife, what would be the purpose for life anyway?

Great hub. I look forward to reading more of your writing.

My friend as i see you are very young but you are writting like you have decades on you back.Always religions are fake illusions ,dreams of paranoia, the one and only god is that who teaches love peace and humanity, and not the words that priests(of all religions)claimed that he said. Now the problem is ....have you ever heard words that made you feel that something exists????????
