Understand why puppies bite and how you can stop it simply, quickly and easily.
Start 'em young on training!
You indeed love the little puppy, but do you think it's time you did something to how she makes sneaky bites on your sofa, sneakers, and above all your fingers? Even if nipping and chewing are part and parcel of a puppy's instinct that is between two and six moths of age, these need to be weaned out of the dog! But far from throwing a tantrum meant to shock the clueless puppy out of her wits, read on to know more about training puppies not to bite.
Experts agree that puppies need to teethe, similar to human babies. In fact, chewing and nipping are the typical actions of a normal puppy investigating its world. So what simply needs to be done is that the puppy is directed to chew items meant specifically for young dogs.
Examples of stuff you can do is to identify what pet toys your dog may enjoy. An especially engrossing toy is the rubber type with an opening for food, such as the kong.
On the other hand, some toys possess a choking danger, so steer clear of toys that have squeakers that can be torn off and ingested. Toys that have small, wobbly parts may need to be discarded.
Puppies will appreciate it if there always seem to be something new about the toys they play with, so rotate the toys once in a while. With this, they will want to get busy and preoccupied with these objects instead of trying to nip and bite house mates.
Watch over your puppy with the same care with which a baby is always kept within sight. If it's impossible to be always there for the puppy, protect your home from any possible accidents that a puppy on the loose can cause. Confine the puppy into an exercise pen or crate.
Another thing to do in training puppies not to bite is to keep out of reach items that can harm the dog when they are chewed. Then you will need to put a safety lock on the cabinet beneath the sink. Even human snacks, and most especially chocolate which can harm dogs, need to be kept away.
In any case, take heart that puppy biting and chewing are rarely displays of belligerence. Just be aware however, that when the behavior of the puppy is now deadly serious, snarly, or is causing you to be very afraid, then the best thing to do is to probably film that behavior and to consult it with a professional.
