such a beautiful hub. I have book with poems only of flowers. I must look for it and probably post one or two for you. In the meantime here is one from the Song of Songs chap 2 verses 1 - 2.
I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the maidens.
Hi Lisa, thanks for that verse , it is beautiful. MM
It is really hilarious to be among flowers and flowery quotes.
I just wanted to let you know for the sake of literature and, perhaps, for your own knowledge that Thoreau never spoke or wrote the phrase "Earth laughs in flowers..."; that line is accredited to Thoreau's mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson - on who's land thoreau squatted for two years aside Walden pond - in his poem Hamatreya. Also, the way in which you have used this quote displaces it far out of context, a mistake that many make - including myself. Emerson means it not as a simple reflection on earth's beauty in anthropomorphic flavor; instead, he employs it as an iteration of earth's dominance over her short-lived dominator - humanity, especially the utilitarian man (or woman). I would highly suggest reading Hamatraya and searching out its meaning (I have posted a link to it in the URL box). Because the phrase "Earth laughs in flowers..." means something so different in context than it does out of context, it will set a giggle in you every time you come across it once you read it. (Also, I would highly recommend Thoreau's Walden if you have not yet had the chance. It will almost inevitably change your life.)
i like all the proverbs given here. that specially flowers and friend than never fade.i love all flowers.
