reading hardships

“My reading history”
As a child I had the hardest time learning to read because I didn’t know how to pick things up. My parents had to teach me to everything that I can do now like picking up a book. Once I had mastered that I had to be taught how to turn pages, “Oh great more help from mom and dad!” After a while I slowly began to pick up the process of reading independently. Then I began to read “Dr. Suess” books like “Hop on Pop”.
Throughout my school years I have always been pushed to read, I did not like to be pushed to read. The more that I was pushed the more I was being pushed from liking to read and soon I began to drop my reading level because I just stopped reading. My parents got worried like they always did and asked my teachers if I could start to read smaller books like” Clifford the Big Red Dog” so that I would like to read again. It worked for awhile but, I began to get jealous of my friend because they were reading these huge books like Harry Potter. I did not want to read “baby books” as I had called them. I wanted to read books like my friends. So I gradually began to increase the size of my books.
In my middle school years, I was just beginning to like books ever since I met one teacher named Mrs. Holly Strobel. During my experience with her my eighth grade year she was always there for me whether I needed help or not. In the beginning I was always asking questions but, toward the end of the year I began to come to her less. I was doing very well in middle school because of her. Also what had surprised me was that I was having surgery in April and I was stresses and I was still making Honor Roll. Mrs. Strobel was one teacher I will never forget. She inspired me to read books by John Steinbeck, Jerry Spinelli, and Avi. She gave me a suggestion of a series of books called “The Bluford Series”
Now that I’m in high school I’m reading very thick books. I’m also reading practically anything that I want except for those Harry Potter books they never really interested me. I got my reading level up to a ninth grade reading level and my writing is on and eleventh grade reading level because I like to read so much. So far in the school year I have read five books in the five weeks we were in school. On top of that I’ve gotten my mom to start reading again. Some of the many books that I have read now are: “The Ax”, ‘Inkspell”, ‘Inkheart’, “Autobiography of my dead brother’, “A shot in the dark”, and “A series of unfortunate events the bad beginning”. Those are the books that I have read so far this year.

Right on man. I didn't starting reading a lot until after I graduated high school. Once I did though, I read insatiably for a long time. There's nothing like it. Keep up the good work!
PS: I'm still planning on picking up Twilight one of these days.
