Tools You Need for Ready to Assemble Furniture

Congratulations, ladies! You have discovered the wonderful world of ready to assemble furniture, where there is an amazing assortment of beautiful styles, fine finishes, and highly functional pieces to choose from at surprisingly low prices. There are whole stores and catalogues full of this trendy furniture! There is just one, well, maybe two, little problems. First, you have to figure out how to get those big, awkward boxes home, and then you have to assemble the furniture. Now, that is a challenge. You are determined to have attractive furniture, though, and you refuse to pay the high prices for traditionally manufactured pieces. What's a woman to do? Well, they say every job is easier when you have the right tools. Let's see what this tool list recommends.

Tool Number One

The first tool you require is a charming personality. You need to be able to entice some sweet, kind person into helping you get your furniture home. Preferably someone with a big truck and a strong back. Then you have to really pour on the charm and get them to agree to help you assemble your new treasure. You may need to bring out the big guns for this one; a case of beer or homemade lasagna may be necessary to bait the trap.

Tool Number Two

The next thing you need is the patience of a saint. Presumably, the person you have charmed into assisting you is a man. Your first big task will be to talk them into actually reading the instructions. We all know macho men don't really need instructions, but you must convince them that it will make you feel much better if they indulge your silly little whims. You must also use this important tool during construction, practicing the fine art of biting your tongue and ignoring the blue language coloring the air. In addition, this vital tool will enable you to refrain from laughing hysterically at your helper's inane mistakes, like when he bops his thumb with the hammer.

Tool Number Three

The final tool you must possess if you are going to accomplish this task in a timely manner is a tenacious streak. You must not stop to chat on the phone, take just a peek at what's happening on Oprah today, or fix the nail you broke helping to carry in the boxes. Focus is essential. You must keep control of the situation, otherwise your helper may decide he needs another beer before he does anymore and you know what happens when they have ‘just one more'. Soon they completely lose their ability to get your work done.

Seriously, though, ladies, if you and a friend do decide to partner up for some furniture assembly, you will probably find everything you need packed in the box with the furniture. The only tools normally needed are Allen wrenches, a Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer for tapping pieces together. If you can come up with a power screwdriver, that even works better and if you have a choice, a rubber mallet is the preferable hammer to use because it won't be as likely to damage the finish.

Remember, having the proper tools is important when tackling any job. You should keep your tools in good working condition. It's always handy to have power tools, and even handier to have the power of persuasion. After all, you never know when you're going to fall in love with another piece of ready to assemble furniture!
