remote keyless entry hoax
66remote keyless entry by phone
Well, this concept sure has created a lot of debate! Some people swear that they have and can unlock their vehicles remotely with a cell phone, and I do mean ReMotely!; but auto-makers and science-geeks alike all tell us it is just downright technically impossible. (And I, myself, tend to believe science-geeks most of the time).
I also suspect that at least some people who "claim" this works have tried it and thought it worked when, in fact, they are still within the keyless entry range of unlocking their vehicles.
The range of the entry systems might be (HAS TO BE) significantly greater than experimenters realize as this idea is technologically not possible. But nevertheless, some people actually DO believe they have, infact, unlocked their vehicle via their mobile phone when they have simply done so in the normal way via their remote device.
So why would they believe this? Probably because most people wouldn't test this out unless they could *see* their car; because they would not wish to unlock it unless they were near enough to know someone wouldn't be getting into it.
Still, a lot of people claim to have used this method from many kilometres distance! Again, logic and common sense dictate compellingly evidence that this is just not technically possible.
Keyless entry systems work on radio waves, not sound waves, so it is awfully hard to believe the unlock signal could be transmitted via a cell phone, especially since cell phones and keyless entry systems work at entirely different frequencies.
Some people think this will still work with certain keyless entry systems and/or phone services or combinations of the two... and this, I suppose, may work giving them the benefit of major doubt.
It could explain why this seemingly impossible method might work for a few people (don't want to call them liars now do we?). Many people claim this method really does work despite all evidence against the shakey theory.
All I DO know is this; I have tried it myself on 2 different vehicles with several different cell phones and I could not get it to work. I am not alone. I know others who have tried and failed. So, if it does work for some; hats off to you but the idea is kinda useless for the majority of us
regular folks!
