How to Remove WeatherBug
68
WeatherBug is bundled into certain downloads, such as the AOL Instant Messenger, and gives users weather updates in American cities. However, many users do not realize the software comes bundled and find it installed on their systems after the fact. Since it does not transmit data, but it comes in a free version supported by ads so it is considered adware.
Removing WeatherBug can only be done manually. Most spyware removal programs, such as Adaware and Spybot, do not recognize it as spyware. First, you want to exit the program and if need be, manually do it through the Windows Task Manager. Once it is closed completely, go to your Control Panel and use the Add/Remove Program feature to run the uninstall. When that finishes, restart your computer.
If you see error messages upon the restart of the computer, you may need to do a little more advanced work. Click on the Start Menu and choose the Run option. When the box pops up, type in regedit. When that pops up, you will want to go into the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, find the software folder and further go into that. Find the AWS folder and delete it from the registry. Once that is complete, go through the Microsoft, Windows and CurrentVersion folders to find any mentions of Weather. When, and if you find them, delete the entries. Be careful not to delete anything else or you could seriously damage your system stability. Then, reboot your system.
If no error messages pop up during the restart, you want to go your Program Files folder and delete the AWS folder to remove any other left over system files. Once that is complete, open up your My Computer folder, click on the C drive, then Documents and Settings. From there, go into the Application Data folder and find WeatherBug. Delete the folder, restart once more and the uninstall is complete.
Adware is another thing that may slow down your system. Avoiding it and clearing it out of your system is a surefire way to keep things running as fast as they can. Plus, it saves you the hassle of having to start from scratch down the line if things get too bogged down to run properly.

Great hub. I've had weatherbug on my computer before. And it's named weatherBUG for a reason. What a pain it can be.
