1. Choose a Water Bottle That’s BPA-Free

Thinking of purchasing a one-handed reusable water bottle? Make sure and get one without BPA! Why?

BPA, or bisphenol-A, is a dangerous chemical that is found in many types of polycarbonate plastics. BPA was accidentally discovered to be harmful because it leached out of polycarbonate cages that were being used to house mice in a laboratory when the cages were washed.

The mice started to develop abnormalities that caused researchers to begin looking for a cause, and it was soon discovered that BPA was the culprit. Researchers replicated the findings to be sure, and they confirmed that BPA was the cause of the problems in the mice.

Since then, it’s been discovered that BPA can cause all sorts of problems in rats and mice. Because it takes longer for abnormalities to show up in human embryos, studies aren’t currently being done to find out how BPA would affect humans.

It’s currently assumed that humans would experience the same problems, it would just take a bit longer to show up. These abnormalities can include miscarriages, birth defects, reproductive problems, low sperm count, and even changes in tissue that mimic the effects of the early stages of breast cancer.

These are some very serious issues, so finding a water bottle that is BPA-free is important. Many manufacturers are now labeling their bottles as BPA-free, so try to find a bottle that specifically states BPA-free on the label.

If you can’t find a bottle that is labeled BPA-free, there are some precautions you can take to minimize your risk of being harmed by the chemical. Unless you know for certain your bottle is BPA-free, don’t use it to store hot liquids.

Don’t wash it in the dishwasher, but use a mild detergent and rinse very well. And don’t use the bottle for longer than a few months before you buy another one. BPA can leach through normal wear and tear as a bottle degrades.

2. Carabiners Make Guzzling Water Convenient and Easy

Water bottles are very convenient, but certain types of bottles are more convenient than others. Sure, you could reuse the bottles that you buy bottled water in, but those aren’t very convenient at all. Additionally, disposable water bottles are made with PET Plastic (recycle code #1) and can leach BPA.

Additionally, these types of water bottles suffer from the same shortcoming as Nalgene and most others - they are more difficult to use because you have to use two hands to unscrew the cap, take a drink, and put the cap back on.

That’s especially inconvenient if you’re a cyclist or someone who doesn’t have a lot of time to stop to drink! Water bottles that have a squirt top are much more convenient. They can be held with one hand and opened using the lips or teeth, and you can squirt the water into your mouth without having to take one hand off of your bicycle handle.

This is also especially convenient for climbers who need to have one hand available for safety reasons. Water bottles with carabiners are especially convenient, because they can be attached almost anywhere, allowing easy access and easy transport.

Instead of having to pull the bottle out of a backpack or other container, the bottle can be attached to the outside of the backpack, or to a belt or elsewhere. This way the bottle won’t leak inside the container, and the bottle will also be within easy reach whenever it’s needed.

A perfect example of how useful a one-handed water bottle can be!

3. Why Are One-Handed Water Bottles a Necessity?

Today’s world is a busy one. Everyone is on the go these days, and most people feel they don’t have a spare moment in their day. This can lead to people not drinking enough water, and that can quickly lead to chronic dehydration.

Dehydration can cause mental cloudiness, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, dry eyes, sore throat, and other minor issues. It can also be very dangerous, leading to electrolyte imbalances that could cause the person to go into a coma or have a heart attack.

Since people are often so busy and feel they don’t have time to stop long enough to take in adequate fluids, it’s very important for them to have a convenient way to drink fluids without having to stop what they are doing.

A one-handed water bottle like the Titan is especially helpful, because you don’t have to stop what you’re doing to drink. You can grab the bottle with one hand, squeeze it, and immediately begin drinking. Another one-handed bottle is the Hydrastorm brought to you by Blackhawk.

Some of them can be opened with the lips or teeth if necessary. But this can’t be done with ordinary water bottles. Standard water bottles require you to stop whatever you’re doing, use two hands to open them, drink, then use two hands to close them.

One-handed water bottles are useful for almost everyone! Cyclists find them convenient because they can keep one hand on their handlebars while they drink. Climbers can keep one hand on their rope.

Golfers, hikers, campers, fishermen, boaters, and many other people who participate in various sporting activities find them useful. Even a mother walking her baby in a stroller can benefit from a one-handed water bottle, because she can drink while still keeping one hand securely on the stroller.

I used to use the plastic ones all the time, little did I know. Now I use stainless steel.
