Reusing vs. trashing

Do you even stop and think about in what purposes some item from your household could be reused before casting it into trash? No? Well, you should!

Fact is that our 'civilized' world is producing more and more trash. Soon enough we'll be surrounded with it! Living in trash! We have to change our habits and the way we look at consumption and trashing.

Starting from basic 3R's: REDUCING, REUSING and RECYCLING!

No trashing!

So many things can be reused!

There is really great number of items that can be reused! You wouldn't believe and never would have thought about some of them! Some even seem silly but they work just fine!

Here I'll add some of the ways common household items can be reused. Not all of them (it would really make a long, long list) but few to make you hand stop when reaching towards trash can!

  1. Toilet paper rolls are lying around bathroom? Don't know what to do with them? You could reuse them: to extend vacuum cleaner reach, to keep wires tangle free, as kindling or logs, etc.
  2. Summer is over and your kids collected a huge number of popsicle sticks? You can reuse it for number of purposes: stir paint, use as emergency splint for a finger... They are very useful as crafts requisition. If you don't know what to do with them, ask your kids' teacher, he / she will find a purpose for them!
  3. Do you buy eggs in cardboard or polystyrene cartons? You know that you can reuse both of them? You can use it as storage / organizer for number of small items - jewelry, golf balls, small toys, etc.
  4. You have huge number of broken CDs and DVDs? Don't throw them! They can be reused as driveway reflectors or as coasters!
  5. Even your old mousepad can be reused!!! How? Use it under houseplants to prevent from damaging floor or cut it and use as appliance feet....

Thanks for these great, and in most cases, easy to implement, re-use ideas.

Hi Michelle. Which city do you live in? The border with Hungary is very long. Are you in Baranja or Medimurja area or in between? Are you telling me to shoo? hehe. :)

Dobar dan Michelle Willow. Your hub proves that recycling can also be fun.

Now my curiosity is peaked. Where in Croatia are you?

Great Hub, Michelle.

By the way, ovdje sam naletjela na jednog Slovenca, solarshingles i to je to s ovih teritorija. Vidjeh i neke Hubove od par Dalmatinaca, me?utim nisu bili uporni u pisanju, he, he, he....ovdje je super...samo treba biti strpljiv...

Wish you write more Hubs about similar topics....Thumbs up, Michelle

I agree, why throw something away if you can still use part of it.

hi willow, i enjoyed the hub, i use old cd's as targets for target practice with my pistol and rifles. i take tape and fill in the hole and paint it red so it has a red dot in the center, they shatter great. i rake up the fragments and add them to my concrete projects for fill when i am done.

thanks for more ideas.

You always have such useful ideas. These ideas help cut down waste but they can save a bit of money as well.
