There are thousands of people everyday who are looking for a way to do a reverse email address search. Perhaps someone has been sending you spam, anonymous emails or threats via email and you want to find out who they are so that you can report them.

If you have been receiving spam or threats, your ISP may be able to trace the emails so that you can find out where the emails are being sent from and who's internet account is being used. As long as it's not a public source or internet cafe, you can get your answer quite quickly. However, there are some privacy laws in many countries which would prevent you from knowing the name or identity of the sender. But there are other ways to find out.

One option is to hire a private investigator that can research the email address for you and find out who it belongs to. Hiring a private investigator is quite expensive so this may not be an option for you.

Option three is to try to perform searches on internet search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN. If the email you want to research is posted somewhere on a web page, then the search engine will find the information and you can visit the website and find out if you can find some useful information associated to that email address. Sometimes people post their email address together with their names and physical addresses. People are communicating online all the time and they sometimes post their details so that others can contact them regarding certain issues, business transactions or services. If you are lucky, the person sending the emails may have their information somewhere on the internet. Another good thing about this is that if the emailer has been emailing other people you may find that someone has already researched the emails and posted the information that you need somewhere on the internet.

Lots of people complaining about spam and other email issues normally end up posting copies of emails online in discussions forums and you may be able to find that other people may have received the exact emails that you have been receiving. You can contact these people to find out what they know or ask for help from other members of the online communities such as discussion forums.

But the most popular option is to use an email database online. There are a few services online that have databases of email accounts and their registered owners. These are the same databases that are used by law enforcement and private investigators. You can go to their websites and research any email addresses and you'll find the name of the person or organisation that the email address is registered to and their address. It's the quickest and cheapest way to perform a reverse email address search online. They provide you a search box where you can enter the email address and then press search. The system will then search through the database for a match and when that is found it will be displayed to you with the information you want.
