Robots the good the bad & the ugly
63Hub Intro
I published a robot Hub earlier but in researching it was astounded at the rate of technological advance in the robot field. This hub offers more coverage of the exciting field of robot development.
The Good #1
VALHALLA, New York -- Lying in his hospital room, on a mattress designed to protect his fragile skin, 13-year-old Achim Nurse poked his bandaged fingers at an orange button on what looked like a souped-up video game console.
Half a second later, in a social studies class discussing the Erie Canal, a 5-foot-tall steel-blue robot raised its hand.

The Singularity Is Near
Ray Kurzweil is an inventor and futurist
In his latest book, "The Singularity Is Near," he examines the next step of the evolutionary process: the union of human and machine, in which knowledge and skills embedded in our brains will be combined with greater capacity, speed and knowledge-sharing ability.
Kurzweil is also the author of "The Age of Intelligent Machines," "The 10% Solution for a Healthy Life," "The Age of Spiritual Machines" and "Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever." As a noted inventor he is credited for his work with music synthesis, speech and character recognition, virtual reality and cybernetic art.
He is not just some guy talking down at the laudromat
The Floating Bed
Janjaap Ruijssenaars, a young Dutch creator of the floating bed -- a sleek black platform, which took six years to develop and can double as a dining table or a plinth. It hovers above the ground through magnetic force and comes with a price tag of 1.2 million euros ($1.54 million). from Yahoo the full floating bed story

Miuro is a new autonomous network music robot that can play your iPod tunes
while roving around the room. It can also handle music in a variety of other
formats. The system uses your wireless LAN to receive the music.
The unit also has a small webcam that can transmit pictures to your personal
computer, and then to the Internet. The robot itself can be controlled from your
home computer or remotely via the Internet (using your cellphone, if you wish).
It uses a range sensor to autonomously avoid obstacles; the system analyzes
music being played and will vary its lighting and gait accordingly.
The system also has a remote; holding the remote, you can not only select and
play music, but have your personal stereo follow you from room to room.
The Miuro robotic sound system will be available in small quantities in Japan
this December for about 108,000 yen.
Herbie Rides Again !
German car giant Volkswagen has turned fiction into reality by unveiling a fully automatic car which really can drive itself - and at speeds of up to 150mph. It can weave with tyres screeching around tricky bends and chicanes, and through tightly coned off tracks - without any help or intervention from a human.
Microsoft is into Robot software
Microsoft are active in robotics software and their site provides video feed on anincresign number of application eveloped using their platform.
