The Rock Band Craze
63
Rock Band was developed by Harmonix Music Systems and released in November 2007 right before the holiday rush. Rock Band redesigned how users interact with their gaming system by living out their rock start fantasies. You can sing, play the guitar or bass, or play the drums. They each come with different settings, standards and play-through, and you can take advantage of living out your dreams through each peripheral.
Guitar Hero World Tour
Guitar Hero World Tour is RedOctane's response to the Rock Band Craze. Just like Rock Band, you will go on tour with the Guitar Hero crew and have the chance to sing, drum and strum your way through the world. One unique feature for the release will be the ability to upload and download music through a feature called GHTunes.
Guitar Hero World Tour will be released in America on October 28, 2008 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360.
Up to four players can play during one time in either a world tour mode, one song mode or against another band. There are hook-ups for a guitar, a bass, the drums and a microphone, but you do not need all four peripherals to take advantage of Rock Band. Just like Karaoke Revolution or Guitar Hero, you go through a song and react to different bars on the screen. You earn points for doing the best you can and lose out if you cannot keep up. If you do poorly, you will be booed off stage.
Rock Band has taken off amongst all demographics and Rock Band 2 is the eagerly awaited sequel due in September 2008. Many bands have been included in the new version, and most systems will release additional song packs as they did before either for free over their online networks or to be purchased for a small fee. Rock Band 2 will be able to utilize the components of the initial release so consumers can either purchase just the game or individual components if necessary.
If you have not jumped on the bandwagon, Rock Band 2 is right around the corner, and you should! Any rock start fantasy can be lived out through the music, game play and expansion of the franchise. If you know someone who has it or find a demo at a store, pick up the guitar or drum sticks and give it a try. You may just find yourself living vicariously through a video game that was meant to bring out a little bit of rock start in all of us.
