Dinner in New York With Me, Ron Pollack

I have been working on my new Hedge Fund trying to get it off the ground even after this economic delay. So I was off to New York to meet with Potential Clients. I met this guy "Doug" who runs a small brokerage firm that is specific towards Hedge Funds. Right away he reminded me of my Friend "Harry" who was in serious need of a job. Since he was one of the top sales guys I have ever met I figured it would be a perfect match so I asked Harry to come and meet me for dinner. I used to be one of Harry Clients back in my "Ron Pollack Bulldog Days" and we have been in touch ever since. We even retired around the same time but have both talked about how much we miss the money and the game of being "Sales Traders". We were simply called that because we executed orders for institutional customers with Hedge or Mutual Funds.

Even though we both had our share of unprofitable business ventures we were both very successful. So when I met with him telling him I was getting back into money management he was ecstatic. Besides being excited about me getting back into the game he looked so stressed out. I had never seen him like this since this was a guy who could handle million share orders in volatile stocks like a walk in the park. Due to Firms closing left and right business was very slow for him. This made it even sweeter to tell him of my idea to introduce him to Doug.

After a trial run, which he aced, and 4 months in the business Harry became Doug's right hand man. He was able to climb to #1 in sales since he easily talked his past clients to come with him at his new company. This was a terrific outcome because shortly before that we were hearing every day about the end of Wall Street as we knew it.

So we met for dinner again and I was dying to ask his opinion about the economy now that he was back on his feet. He said, “ There are a lot of people hurting right now and I truly feel for them, but I am living proof that if you’re good at what you do, have the willingness to work hard and apply yourself and are realistic in your expectations, you can make it and even flourish in times like these.” This was so refreshing to hear in these times even though I knew it to be true. Sometimes you need to be reminded even of the things you already know.

Even though we are both, or should I say a majority of us are all making less now, we still have nothing to complain about. Our hard work is paying off as it did before as I am confidant it will continue to in the future as well. He also told me, “Fighters like us will be there when there is business to get done and anyone who can find ways to be productive, business will always be around!”

So signing off as Ron Pollack, heres to you Harry, Keep showing us how it is done!
