Rubiks Revenge - Pairing Up The Edges
89Continuing with the reduction method in order to solve the 4x4x4 Rubiks Revenge Cube, after solving the 6 Centres the next step is to Pair up the Edges.
The goal of the second step is to pair up the Double Edge (Dedges).
Double Edges stand for pairs of edge cubies that make up a logical edge cubie of a Standard Cube.
There are 12 Dedges, each with two cubies of the same combination, so we have 24 edge cubies in total.
There are several ways to pair up the edges to form Dedges, here the simplest one will be explained in detail.
When you have solved the Centres and paired up the Edges, you can finish off the cube in the same way as a 3x3x3 Standard Cube.
Warning:
If you haven’t read the first part, please read it before continuing.
Step 2, Pairing Up The Edges
Look for two Edge Pieces and locate one piece in the Front Face and another in the Back Face (Case A) or one piece in the Right Face and another in the Left Face (Case B) .
Make sure when doing this move that you have an unsolved edge group in the position shown as light gray.
Pairing, Case A
Pairing, Case B
To position two Edge Pieces in order to solve a Dedge, you will move only the Upper, Left, Right, Down Faces. If you need help, see examples here.
To solve the last two Dedge Pieces, locate them in the Front Face, with both pairs of Edge Pieces same color in same face. If the pieces are like it is shown, make these moves (the colors are only for reference):
When you have same color in same face, make these moves:
If you still have difficulties, in the following video you will see the movements explained before.
.
Step 3, Finishing the Cube
Once you have finished the 3x3x3 reduction method you will be able to solve your cube as if it were a Standard Rubik's Cube, except for a few situations known as parity errors.
Last Layer Edges Parity Error
In step Last Layer Edges, you will have a parity error if you have an incomplete line or an incomplete cross:
Incomplete Line
Incomplete Cross
Top Layer Edges Parity Error
In step Permute the Top Layer Edges, you will have a parity error if you have only two Degde to permute.
(The Corner Piece shown in the images it's a reference for the color of each face).
Opposite Dedges
If the Dedges are adjacent, you will swap two Opposite Dedges in order to get three incorrect Dedges to permute.
Adjacent Dedges
Once you have three incorrect Dedges, you can permute them Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise as in the 3x3x3 Rubiks Cube.
Top Layer Corners Parity Error
In step Permute the Top Layer Corners, you will have a parity error if you have only two Corners to permute.
Corners In Line
Corners In Diagonal
Now you know How To Solve A 4x4x4 Rubiks Cube.

I have responded to you here
It is very good, the details are said clearly.
I've tried solving the cross numerous times and I just can't get it. I can understand the algorithms for the other steps, that one I just can't get to work.
Hi Rob
Ops! Sorry.
The image of the incomplete cross was erroneous.
Now it is corrected. Hope this helps.
Haha...I'm glad that was the reason...I was thinking that I was seriously messed up. I'll give that a go!
is the cross corrected ? If it is where is it?
Which is your problem?
i cant finish the incomplete cross?

I hav a parity error that is neither of the ones mentioned here.
I only have one corner that is not fully solved. I know how to solve a 3x3x3 cube and try to use the last step in solving that cube when I am trying to solve the 4x4x4.
Everything I have tried doesn't work. I have even tried getting the parity errors mentioned above, but I still cannot solve it.
Any suggetions?
ps--no one has ever removed the pieces so I know that is not the problem.
