Please join me on my quest to be fit on my fiftyth birthday. I've done hundreds of training techniques and diets. I'd like to share my quest, what's working and what's not.
After some significant thought, I wonder if I need a new pair of running shoes. I’ve had these puppies for over a year now and they have served me well. I run, play, shop and muck my stables with them…
Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for a new pair of running shoes:
- Don’t be mesmerized by advertizing… do your homework and have an idea of what you NEED and the job your shoes will be doing.
- When you run your foot elongates and your foot feels the impact of five times your body weight. In some cases, for running, consider purchasing a shoe slightly longer than you would normally wear.
- Just use that shoe for running. It is recommended to replace them after mile 400. Depending on how far you run your shoes may last 6months or maybe even a year. Replacement is important as the materials loose their resiliency.
- Bring your orthotic, if you use one, when shopping for running shoes.
- Wear socks and if you have special socks you like to wear then bring or wear them.
- Just like your mommy did when you were a kid, press down on the toe to find the end of your foot. You want enough room to wiggle your toes, about ½ inch.
- Check the inside as well. Make sure there are no bumpy or unfinished seams.
Comfortable shoes are a must when you are running, so, take care of your feet and they will thank you for it.
