How to Keep Your House Safe While You Are on a Vacation
68Now days, it is not safe anymore to leave our house for a longer period. Anything can happen to our house while we are away. Burglars might enter or house fire can happen. However, human as we are, we need also to take a rest. We need to get away from our work once in awhile and take a vacation. We need to leave our house and see other places, enjoy and meet new friends.
What You Can Do
While you are away, here is what you can do to make your house safe:
1.) Disconnect all your appliances from the convenience outlet. If possible, turn off the main breaker of your house.
2.) Shut off your gas; turn off the main valve of your LPG tank.
3.) Check all faucets; be sure all are closed. It is better if you closed also the main valve of your water connection.
4.) Close all the windows of your house lock all doors and secure other possible points of entry. Be sure they cannot be forced open. If possible, install dead-bolt locks and chain locks on all your doors.
5.) Lock also all your closets and cabinets especially those where valuables are stored. Do not leave valuables where they can be seen from the outside. Burglars are easily tempted.
6.) Check your refrigerator and food cabinets dispose of perishable food.
7.) Secure all inflammable material such as old newspapers, cleaning fluid, paints, varnishes, etc. Do not leave lighters or matches lying around.
8.) Clean your house; protect from dust with dustsheets all your furniture, beds and those, which cannot be stored away.
9.) Do not leave spare key of your house under the doormat, over the door or in a flowerpot. They will be found, instead leave it to a trusted neighbor. This is better because in case an emergency happens to your house, your trusted neighbor can take care of it.
So pack up your things and take a vacation. We really need to rest and enjoy once in awhile.
