Sales Part Time | Sales as a Career
60Sales part time – are sales jobs right for you?
I just can’t make enough money to get ahead! That is the complaint of so many people today as costs go up, and hours get cut. This dilemma is leading many people to seek part time employment to supplement what they already do.
As you desperately look for a job, you may find yourself going down rabbit trails of empty promises- from a myriad of online schemes …
to “You can be rich in real estate” seminars backed by people with bad hairdos. With so much hype and jive out there these
days, it makes me ask the question, “are there any good, legitimate part time
jobs out there?" The short answer is, "yes"!
Sales Jobs as part time income or full time career
Sales is a career that can be extremely lucrative. Some find it easy and others find it to be a gut-wrenching thing to even think about. Having said this, you might be putting yourself in category two at this point, but bear with me…you may be surprised to discover that you are a great candidate for becoming a salesperson. Several factors will help you determine if sales is right for you.
Sales Training
- Do you have “courage” to do what needs to be done in unknown situations?
Have you ever had to be the leader in a situation that you lacked experience? This can be something as simple as helping direct traffic on a lonely road when there is a traffic accident. You may not be trained in paramedics or traffic control—but you stepped up and did what needed to be done in the situation, saving lives in the process. This ability to think under pressure and act with courage is a a skill needed in sales. You may be a salesperson.
Perhaps you have been called on to head up a group for your organization. Your job will be leader of the group. You may not have a degree in leadership, but you can take on the role of a Boy Scout leader, classroom contact person, and little league coach. You may be a salesperson.
- Do you have an “entrepreneurial spirit”?
Have you ever taken it upon yourself to try something new? Maybe you went sky diving or took up the piano. Having an entrepreneurial spirit doesn’t mean you want to conquer the business world, it simply means you have the drive to try new things. You may be a salesperson.
- Do you like to network?
People who like to hang out with people are networking. If you belong to a club, organization, church, or online community like Face Book, Hub Pages and Twitter...you are a "networker". You spend your day hanging out and sharing stuff with people. You may be a salesperson.
- Can you see the positive in many situations?
One day it was raining outside and your son said, “I hate the rain. I can’t go outside”. If you replied, “We need the rain. It will help with the drought. I am thankful for the rain”…you saw the glass half full. You can see the positive in situations. You may be a salesperson.
- Are you a good listener?
If you find that people like to talk to you, it is probably because you are a good listener. You may be a salesperson.
- Have you ever had to convince someone to do something they were reluctant to do because it was in their best interest?
If you are a parent you have done this.
How many times do you have to get your kids to do things they don’t want
to do. Sometimes you are even able to do
it in such a way that they are happy about it!You may be a salesperson.

Thanks Kimberly! It's not for everyone- but it really is for more people than we think- the best sales people I know are just really nice people!
Thanks Laura. I actually had no idea I was a networker. I deeply apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I had to take some time off. I have been working too hard. I love your articles and your valued feedback. Blessings. John

Selling isn't easy. I was a licensed insurance agent and managed my Dad's Insurance Brokerage for a while. Not always easy. Good hub!
