Mark, is it OK if I call you Mark? Just wondering. I won’t because I surely don’t want to be on a first name basis with you. You have disgraced my Republican party. Why couldn’t you have told the first lady and the people of South Carolina where you were really going? Would have been more honorable, don’t you think?

Can’t go back
Anyway, the die is cast. You can’t pull it back. You can’t back the calendar to June 17th and start over the next day. You can’t recover the sleep you undoubtedly lost the past couple of months. You can’t get the work done for the people of South Carolina that you put aside during the past couple of month because of other “important matters,”

What you can do
But, here is what you can do. You can leave office now. You will never have a better chance. From what I read, you are about to be impeached. Hopefully, the impeachment process will, if you choose to take it that far, lead to your ouster for the good of the people of South Carolina, the people of our entire country and the Republican party.

I’ve read you cannot be tossed out on your ear because of adultery. I’ve heard it said for years that the private lives of politicians should remain private as should the private lives of the rest of us. I hear people say something like. “Give the guy a chance. None of us are perfect.”

Hogwash!
None of these arguments are justifications for remaining is office. To me, it’s a simple matter. You can and should be tossed out if you are not doing your job to the satisfaction of the people. It has happened to other governors, the most recent being Rod Blagojecvich. Another is Evan Mecham of Arizona, my state. Although I don’t have solid examples of how but it stands to reason that in both cases the people were gypped during the impeachment, conviction and recovery processes. High office distractions don't get the people's work done.

God won’t keep you in office
In your refusal to step down, you have been quoted as saying God is on your side. Hogwash again! Using what little I know and care to know about religion, God and the Bible I will say that if there is a God, he probably is on your side. He wants you to repent. He is in your corner. I think it is fair to say He is on the side of the people of South Carolina too. He wants them to have an honorable governor, not just in title but in behavior.

Think about it.

Why you have to go
Now, aside from everything else, here are three reasons you need to get out of the way:

  • Your inability to focus on the people of South Carolina, whether or not you agree.
  • It is not hard to believe you have been, are now or will be hit by blackmail. To me, that puts not only the people of South Carolina at risk but the rest of the country as well. Any under the table deals with Argentina officials?
  • If I were still working and had paychecks coming, I would bet one of them that you will not be convicted during an impeachment trial. I’m betting you will resign before conviction. There are too many people who have withdrawn their support for your political success.

The pressure is on!
