As I’m sure you gathered from the title of this article, Sara Gilbert is most famous for her role as Darlene Conner-Healy, the sarcastic younger daughter on Roseanne. She was with the show for its entire run for 1988 to 1997. The producers considered her to be such an integral part of the show that they arranged the shows taping schedule around her studies at Yale University.

After Roseanne, Gilbert appeared in several different television shows in both recurring and guest roles. She has also been in several movies, including Desert Blue, $30, Light It Up, The Big Tease, High Fidelity with John Cusack and Jack Black, and many more.

From 2000 to 2001, she starred in Welcome to New York as Amy Manning. She starred alongside comedian Jim Gaffigan.

Also in 2001, she played Tina Barr in the bio-pic Riding in Cars with Boys, in which Drew Barrymore played Beverly Donofrio.

In 2002, she played the role of Paula Schaeffer on the FOX thriller 24, starring Keifer Sutherland and Dennis Haysbert. Next to Roseanne, which I watch a lot of growing up as a child, this is the series that I know her best for.

Over the next few years, Sara guest starred on Will & Grace, Strong Medicine, and Girls on the Bus.

In 2005, she landed the role of Mitchee Arnold on short-lived WB comedy Twins.

Since 2006, she’s had a recurring role on the CBS comedy The Class. She can also currently be seen in a recurring role on the medical drama ER.

Gilbert is openly gay and has been in a relationship with writer/producer Allison Adler since 2002. They have a baby boy named Levi Gilbert-Adler that Allison gave birth to via a sperm donor. Gilbert is currently pregnant with their second child.

I wish somehow that Mrs. Gilbert could know I related to Darlene when I was a teenager, and then when I read somewhere she was a lesbian then I did a lot of research to make sure it wasn't just a line. Then, that even made me look up to her even more. I am at least comfortable in my own skin now. I just wanted to thank her for all the years she has entertained us all. I think she is extremely talented and wish her well in life.
