Aren’t you tired of hearing about the marriage statistics of 50% divorce rate? It’s as if having marriage problems is something that can be helped with the snap of a finger right?

People give up on marriage because it’s hard to save a marriage. It’s as simple as that.

Unfortunately, too many marriages end prematurely because people refuse to reach out for help, and/or actually work on the marriage. There are tons of outside sources to marriage problems such as Save My Marriage Today, which literally did exactly as the title suggests with my marriage.

Believe me, there was plenty wrong with my marriage, but one of the huge factors of the downward spiral of our marriage back in the day was dishonesty. Now, it’s not like I was lying left and right, but something I found out quickly is that you don’t have to lie left and right to begin losing credibility with your spouse quickly.

The worst is that the things I would lie about were really petty things that shouldn’t have mattered in the first place, but I would lie just to get out of any trouble that might have arisen. Stupid stuff, like what I was spending money on, who I was talking to, etc. Silly, silly stuff.

Of course when your wife asks you does this look good on me, I really don’t care what Amy Waterman of Save My Marriage Today says – I’m going to lie! Sorry Amy!

But here’s the deal in all seriousness.

No matter how petty the lie may seem, the fact that you’re dishonest in your marriage for any reason is as Save My Marriage Today says a “marriage killer”.

Here’s why!

Actually you know why. Just think, and if you have kids this is really simple. If your kid comes home and lies to you about something small like whether or not he has homework, what happens the next time you ask him a question about his homework? That’s right… you’re going to wonder whether or not he’s lying to you. Now if you find out that he’s lied to you again about the same thing, or something else small then you start to question every answer that he gives you, and before you know it you can’t believe anything he’s saying.

This is basic, but we sometimes don’t recognize that the small little “white” lies in our marriages are building up because many times your spouse won’t say anything (but you can feel when they don’t fully buy into your little lie can’t you?), and also because it becomes a habit.

A habit of avoiding conflict, when if you’d just tell the truth about why you’re actually late coming home is because you stopped on the way and had a Big Mac, then how much conflict could there actually be about that if you think about it. You’re a an adult, and you were hungry.

Petty lies turn into big problems, and it took a course like Save My Marriage Today, written by someone who doesn’t even know me to help me recognize the pattern I had fallen into.

If so, you probably do it more than you think. Try for one week just telling the truth about everything and see how your life changes.
