#beatcancer on Social Media- .01 Cent Donated Per Use, Tired of Pink?
Today on Social Media outlets, Twitter, Facebook, etc., a post or tweet has been circulating- .01 cent will be given to cancer research for each time (hash) #beatcancer is used. Ebay, PayPal and Miller Coors are making the donations from what I could find. The goal is to set the Guinness World Record in one day of a mass campaign through social media outlets.
Recent news casts asks if we are seeing to much pink, breast cancer remains one of the leaders of death in women. Some companies are wearing pink, not giving to Cancer Research or SGK (Susan G. Kormen) foundation. NFL Players have been spotted in pink, and they give.
It's recommended you read the package carefully, Americans have big hearts and give when needed. So many of us have been touched in one way or another by cancer, a mom, sister, aunt, co-worker or by some other form of cancer.
If not clearly stated on the product, i.e. (M&M's supports, and the packages are visibly marked), the percentage, amount per sale, what organization they give to, or a number to call, they are probably "wearing pink" not "giving to pink". Some companies use a good cause for profit. The Cancer Society recommends a direct donation, if you are only buying a product to help support breast cancer research, and none of the above are visible or easy to find on the product.
"Save the Boobs" update; the young dark haired girl in the PSA ad, originally was lending her face not her "Boobs" to the ad. Before airing her cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer, she went head on into the project to raise awareness. She wants people to talk, knowing this ad would raise eyebrows, at least it started some dialogue. She feels the younger generation, in particular, needs to "rethink breast cancer".

Shock Advertising, Is It Effective?
The debate goes on, whether shock advertising achieves results, male and female have different perceptions (see below). I was invited to participate in this recent study from: HCD Surveys-Media Curves- PSA (public service announcement) research study "Save the Boobs" Breast Cancer Awareness!! Sex seems to sell, does adding shock increase that value? What do you think??
The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on September 24, to obtain consumers’ perceptions of a recent PSA titled, “Save the Boobs” by Canadian organization, Rethink Breast Cancer. To view interest curves and detailed results, @ www.mediacurves.com.
While there were mixed reactions when comparing responses by gender, the majority of male (84%) and female (79%) viewers reported that the PSA was effective. Male viewers reported “happiness” and female viewers reported “inspiration” as the emotion they felt most while viewing the PSA.
I lost a friend (great trail riding buddy) Carol Reich to breast cancer. She had a family history and knew of the dangers, her checkups were current and she still was taken in a very short time. Diagnosis to death was less than two years. She died at age 52, much to young and lots left to do. Carol and Buster (her beloved trail horse), both are gone but not forgotten.
Be aggressive, ask questions and Rethink Breast Cancer.
