The Relationship of Science and Religion

Is Science conflicting with religion?

Many think science is at loggerheads with religion. But is this really the case? What about Evolution? Is this compatible with the Christian faith? Does Darwin's theory of evolution encapsulate purpose and hence design. Did you know that science can tell us how we came to exist but not why.

What about Intelligent Design? It is surely a hot topic in the US. But unfortunately the public is given a distortion of the Intelligent Designers being just Creationists who are against the Big Bang Theory and believe in a young earth of only say 6,000 years old. But Intelligent Design includes such people as Dr. Antony Flew who converted to deism. He does not believe in a personal God and believes that Intelligent Design is a logical theory. Also Dean Kenyon was a leading Biochemist in the 1970's (I think) and he converted to Intelligent Design. This theory says that we can detect design within nature. It does not exclude evolution but asks serious questions pertaining to flaws of the theory of evolution, particularly macro evolution. Intelligent Design includes people who hold to the theory of evolution and those that don't. Personally I believe that God could have created anyway he chose to. I merely point out the inconsistencies that Darwin pointed out and believed would be solved through the finding of many more fossils.

I'm an author who has researched these very questions. I have included a video clip on this hubpage about whether life came by chance and touch on Darwin's Natual Selection and purpose. I have more clips on youtube. I look forward to some interesting discussions with you guys and gals.

God bless

I think the most logical explaination would be that the very first person ever who concieved the notion of God, is God.

People were obviously present before this guy who concieved of God, so this guy, maybe a girl, set it all in motion the moment he thought about it. I don't know if I should thank him, or hate him for it.

It's a trip to think about!

I think we should thank Him. Because the more you study the origins our awesome universe we discover how finely tuned the origins were to support the existence of A) our universe and B) life itself.

God bless

Sandra I think you are a little confused over the nature of God and causality.

If God is created by a finite human imagination He would be by necessity finite since an effect can't be out of proportion to it's cause. But a finite being is not God. And there is no evidence to suggest that the human immagination can create a being out of nothing. So I don't know how you come to your conclusion.

The Judeo-Christian God is infinite (unbounded), loving, personal (has intelligence and will) and is the creator of the Universe. That is He is the cause of the Universe and an effect (humanity) cannot be the cause (by imagination as you postulate) of it's own cause (God).

Darwin's Natual Selection was created by God in first place so humans would not fall prey into the claws of christianity.

Evolution is just small potatoes, does not dispell the possibility of a creator, a universal transcendant force. How does that saying go...there are more possibilities than one's mind can imagine. P.S. my little photo here is an optical illusion, two pictures are embedded there.

what an interesting topic! Science and religion? I think Deepak Chopra has also touched on this. Tell me more!

I do not live on a 6000 year old planet.

I do not have an omnipotent god who kills innocent little children.

Talk about gullible! Your horrible war mongering god would not want to walk in front of my car!
