British singer/songwriter Seal

Starting with his first single released in 1991, British singer Seal has produced a series of top-selling albums and award-winning singles. He's won three Grammy Awards for his music too.

Depending on which album you listen to, you'll find his music spans R&B, soul, dance and pop songs. His newest album, System, will be released in November 2007.

Lately, he's been in the news more for his marriage to German fashion model Heidi Klum. She's best-known for her work with Victoria's Secret and for hosting the Bravo channel's show "Project Runway." The couple have two sons, as well as a daughter from a previous relationship of Klum's.

I first heard Seal's music back in 1991 when his single "Crazy" first broke through on the American market. It was one of those things that I heard on the radio and then saw on MTV and then hunted down the album

The song was produced by European super-producer Trevor Horn, who I remembered from waaaaay back when he was 1/2 of the Euro pop group The Buggles. He was also one of the founders of the band Art of Noise. The video used some neat tricks to create multiple Seals and was mostly shot on a white background. You used to be able to watch it right here, but Seal is one of the artists signed to Warner Bros Records and they have been really active when it comes to pulling down videos that use the music by their artists lately. Instead, here's a live version of Seal singing the song more recently.

Although Seal's second album was released in 1994, it really paid off for him in 1995. That year, the single "Kiss From A Rose" was picked by film director Joel Schumacher to be used as part of the soundtrack for the movie BATMAN FOREVER. It got huge airplay and shot to the top of the US music charts, propelling it to a double win at the 1996 Grammy Awards for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Shown here is the video that was was produced to go with the film.  This was the 3rd Batman outing with Val Kilmer taking on the role of the Caped Crusader, Jim Carrey as the Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face.

Seal has done some very interesting cover versions in his career. He did a cover version of the Steve Miller Band's 'Fly Like An Eagle" for the Michael Jordan-animation movie SPACE JAM. He also has done cover versions of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe" and Echo & The Bunnymen's "Lips LIke Sugar."

In the fall of 2008, Seal released an album that was entirely a series of cover versions of great R&B classics. Seal has picked a great bunch of songs, including A Change Is Gonna Come, Stand By Me, People Get Ready and It's Alright.
