Seed Stitch, Oh, Versatile Seed Stitch!

Let me sing the praises of seed stitch. It's nubbly texture appeals to me for many different applications. It is easy to fall into a rythmn of knitting and purling this stitch, which is a wonderful thing. It can be elegant or homey. It's a noncurly stitch that can be used for borders and button bands. It is lovely for putting on either side of a cable to show off the cable's great beauty. For dishcloths or facecloths, its texture makes for great scrubbing ability. Take a look at some of the patterns I linked to below if you want to see the great depth of potential in seed stitch.

A Stitch By Any Other Name...

If your knitting teacher (or grandma, or favorite knitting writer) has roots in the British Isles, it is possible that you have heard this stitch referred to as Moss Stitch. Here in the US of A, Moss Stitch is a similar but different stitch pattern. What I want to know is, what is our Moss Stitch over there?
