Shih Tzu puppies can be overwhelmingly cute. Unfortunately, too many people like the puppies but don't want the dogs. These dogs make up the majority of the animals that can be found in a Shih Tzu rescue. For this, and various other similar reasons, the dogs and puppies found in a Shih Tzu rescue have usually come from loving homes that simply cannot keep them anymore. Therefore, they make an ideal place to look for a Shih Tzu if you're considering adopting that breed.

Indeed, many people first think of a breeder when they are considering adopting a certain kind of dog. However, an increasing number of individuals are realizing that there are many rescues out there that specialize in one breed, such as a Shih Tzu rescue.

You can feel good about adopting from a Shih Tzu rescue for many reasons. These include the following:

  • You'll be giving a good dog a second chance at a caring and loving family
  • You'll be supporting a group that does good work to care for dogs that have nowhere else to go
  • You'll prevent another dog from being euthanized, because many Shih Tzu rescue groups take in dogs from animal shelters whenever they have room, to prevent them from being put to sleep if they have not been claimed or adopted in a certain length of time
  • You will know that you're not buying a dog that will support a puppy mill, since Shih Tzu rescue organizations don't purchase their dogs and if any of their puppies are from mills, it's because they've been rescued, not bought. Pet stores are notorious for purchasing from puppy mills.

Of course, there are many other reasons that you can feel good about adopting from a local Shih Tzu rescue, but those are certainly the major ones.

To find a Shih Tzu rescue in your area, simply use the internet. They often have their own websites and can therefore be found by doing a query on a search engine. This way, you'll be provided with a list of the various rescues that are local to you, and you can visit more than one to make sure that you're making the right choice.
