How to save money and keep your house warm in the winter time
73Gas prices
With the economy the way that it is, we all have to think about saving some money somewhere. You can guarantee that the price of gas and oil is going to sky rocket up. So I have some tips to help you through the harsh winter time, that can help you save on your heating cost in your home. They always say that gas prices are not going to be high this winter and the next thing you know its five dollars a gallon!
Letting the heat out
You can start by covering all air gaps that will let the cold air in. If you can feel cold air coming in through the gap then it is letting too much heat out of the house. Check your doors for any gaps, usually underneath the door is where it comes from. If so you can purchase a small flap that screws onto the bottom of the door for really cheap. That will seal the gap and help from losing heat. Also check the seal all around the door for any gaps that could let the heat escape.

Space heater
You can purchase a small space heater to help with the chill during the real cold season. Place it over in the area where the thermostat is for the heater, this will help a lot on your gas bill since electricity is far more cheaper than gas. I own the Lasko Ceramic Tower and in my 20x20 room it stays about 60 degrees in the winter time. It is a very safe heater to use no red hot coils to burn yourself or the house down. It uses a new ceramic heating coil to produce heat and blows it out with a fan.
Air conditioner(swamp cooler)
Cover up the top of your A/C with a thick canvas or slide a piece of thin metal sheet between the cooler and the vent that runs into the house. Most of your heat is lost through the open vents in your home, especially the ones on the top of the house since heat rises. So cover all the vents that you can to help prevent heat loss. If you have refrigerated air than you dont have to do anything.

Warmer clothes
Most the time it doesnt take alot to get rid of the cold chills. While your around the house try putting on a sweater with some warm socks and pants, or snuggle under a nice warm blanket.
Stay in or out
Keep your doors/windows closed as much as possible. Going in and out the door every 10 min is not saving on your heating cost.
Conclusion
Winter time can be a brutal time of the year especially when gas prices are at such a peak that a gallon of gas cost more than a gallon of milk. So try turning down the thermostat to about 50 or 60 degrees with dressing a little warmer and a nice little space heater, you can save yourself some money this winter. That way you can put it in your car!
