Since the release of the iTouch, developers have found ways to crack the operating system and jailbreak the device. Jailbreaking allows for the use of third party applications, not approved by Apple, to be run on the iTouch. Some of these third party applications include games and software. While some of these applications can be purchased through iTunes, others come free of charge through a third party developer.

It is important to note that jailbreaking the iTouch voids the warranty. If you do any sort of modification to the operating system, you may not be able to restore it to factory default. This means that you lose out on your iTouch and would have to purchase another one since Apple will not fix it for you via the terms and conditions of the its limited warranty.

If you are looking for more from your iTouch, and Apple does not provide it, modding the device may be effective. However, if you do not know what you are doing, you should not attempt to jailbreak and install third party applications to your iTouch. By doing so, you may do more harm than good. In the event that you choose to jailbreak the device, be sure to understand the risks of it before the attempt.

When it comes done to it, modding is up to you. Just make sure you know the pros and cons before you do so. Only you can determine if it is in your best interest or not based on what you want to do with your iTouch. If you know what you are doing, if you go ahead with the jailbreak, take your time and take advantage of what third party applications will offer you. If you decide not to jailbreak, take a look at what Apple offers through the iTunes Music Store and see if you are happy with the applications through them.
