As you know social anxiety is a disorder that prevents you from having a social life and interacting with other people for fear of being judged. The good news is that now there are several treatments that can help you overcome it or at least control it.

The 2 most common types of treatments are medications and therapy. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and the results vary depending on each person. Everyone is different so what works well in some people might not work so well in others.

On of the first things that people with social anxiety do is find medications that can help them reduce or eliminate their symptoms of anxiety and depression. There are some medications that work very well for this, but they will not eliminate you problem of social phobia they will just reduce and control the symptoms.

This are the most popular anti depressants and anti anxiety drugs because they have less side effects. They include Prozac, Aropax, Luvox.

  • sexual functioning adverse impact

Serontonin & Noradrenaline Re-uptake Inhibitors (SNRI'S)

  • increase in blood pressure

Monoamine Oxidase Inaibitors (MAOI'S)

side effects:

  • insomnia
  • fatigue
  • drowsiness
  • sexual dysfunction
  • weight gain

Benzodiazepines

side effects:

  • fatigue
  • drowsiness
  • reduce ability to think on your feet

If you abuse of it you can also experience:

  • poor memory
  • fatigue
  • sleeping longer
  • imapired coordination
  • loss of interest in sex
  • depression

Beta Blockers

side effects:

  • Should not be used by asthmatics, diabetics and people with heart disease.

Those are some of the most common side effects of the different types anti depressants and anti anxiety medications. You should not take any medications without the advice of a physician or your doctor. As your doctor about each of those types of medications and what is the best for you.

You also have the alternative of taking a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy instead of taking medications and you can achieve great long term results without any risk.
