When I decided it was time to buy a handgun I asked the Chief of Police of the town I lived in which one was the best one to purchase.

He told me that the Sig Sauer P226 9mm was the one that he had decided to buy for his own force.

He explained to me that the overriding factor for him was that it was the safest handgun and had a 15-round magazine available. It was expensive compared to some others, but safety was the final determiner.

According to the Sig Sauer company it was “Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy Seals, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG SAUER® P226® has earned its place in the highest class of production pistols.”

PoliceEquipmentReviews.com says:

Sig Sauer guns - Sig Sauer makes some of the best handguns. The Sig Sauer guns are very popular among police officers, military, and civilian shooters. Police Equipment Reviews has written this article on Sig Sauer handguns to educate you on them.

Before Police Equipment Reviews talks about some of the most popular Sig Sauer firearms, we will give you a brief history of the company. As mentioned earlier, Sig Sauer handguns are very popular among police officers. Between Glock handguns and Sig Sauer handguns they make up over 75% of police duty guns. Sig Sauer is based out of New Hampshire and currently has over 280 employees. They have been making some of the best handguns in the United States for over 20 years! There is a reason why they have stayed in business so long and that’s because the Sig Sauer guns are some of the best handguns made.”

I prefer the Sig-Sauer P226 because the safety mechanism is foolproof! It will not go off accidentally, no matter how many times you drop it. The only way you can make it fire a bullet is to pull the trigger.

Accidents can happen

I know this for a fact, because I let the Sig slip out of my hand while I was cleaning my office about a year ago. It hit the floor and landed on its grip with the barrel pointing right at my face and it didn’t discharge. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be around to write this article recommending it. That was when I realized that the extra money that I had paid for the Sig was definitely worth it.

I was on the ROTC pistol and rifle teams when I was in college. I carried a 45-caliber sidearm and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in Vietnam and I still managed to have an accident in my home.

Even though my Sig protected me, I still have to admit that I did have an accident that could have been fatal. All it takes is one careless moment.

I found out that my wife didn’t have the hand-strength to chamber a round in the 9 mm version in an emergency, so I got her a smaller caliber, which she can handle just fine.
