Signs and Symptoms of MRSA

MRSA or superbug is a very serious and uncanny illness which is why people should learn to understand the signs and symptoms for effective and quick treatment. Since the disease is a type of staphylococcus aureus infection, individuals should be able to distinguish the determining characteristics that will differentiate it from others. Remember that the initial action should come from patients with their intent to diagnose and detect the problem before it gets serious.

Staph infections are frequently most observable in the patient's skin. At the beginning, MRSA will present itself through small red bumps that are similar to pimples, boils or spider bites. The size may vary depending on severity and duration since the time of transmission. After some time, the tiny bumps will progress into deep large painful abscesses.

The patient is potentially safe as long as the bacteria remain in the bumps on the skin. However, the infection will get worse as the agents start to burrow past the skin and into the body entering the system. At this stage, MRSA is considered life-threatening since the bacteria goes into circulation and enters vital organs like the heart, lungs and bones.

It is not uncommon for individuals not to consider the small bumps as serious since many mistake them as spider bites or mild skin rash. Presence of pus inside the bumps are indicative of bacterial infection so patients should start evaluating whether the bumps are getting sorer or looking worse by the day. The skin may also feel warm or hot or a mild fever may ensue as the bumps continually develop.

Rare cases of MRSA skin infection involves necrotizing fasciitis wherein the bacteria eats through the skin and flesh. The appearance would be like a rotting wound with very foul odor and lots of pus. The skin and soft tissue will continue to die and decay as long as the bacteria remain untreated. This is a very scary and serious condition but happens rarely. Staph skin infections can easily be treated especially during the early stages.
