Symptoms of ADHD

ADHD or attention deficit disorder is usually first diagnosed in childhood but will often last well into adulthood. Typically children with ADHD have trouble paying attention, staying focussed, resisting impulsive actions or behaviours and, in some cases, are hyperactive children.

Remember it is normal for children, at one time or another, to have trouble focusing and behaving - no matter if you think your children are angels all children will misbehave sometimes - this alone does not constitute a diagnosis of ADHD. Children with ADHD have progrssively worse symptoms which can make learning very difficult. They have real trouble paying close attention to details and usually make many careless mistakes in their schoolwork or other activities. other common symptoms are not seeming to listen when spoken to and the children often avoid or dislike things that take a lot of mental effort for a long period of time. being easily distracted, fidgety and forgetful are other classic signs. However for a true diagnosis of ADHD the above problems have to be so severe that they cause significant impairment in social, school, or work functioning. Dont confuse bad behaviour with attention deficit disorder! However if suspected it is important to seek professional adhd treatment as soon as possible.
