What Dangers Should You Know About Skin Lightening Creams

A majority of people tends to believe that they have better future with lighter complexion because they fare better in social and economic aspects. Many people use skin lightening creams to even out their skin tone when they have irregular pigmentation; certain areas of the skin is darker than others. They can help to reduce the appearances of skin blemishes and discoloration.

Most skin lightening products don't bleach the skin. They actually limit the output of melanin. The common compound for this function is hydroquinone. It has been considered as the most effective skin whitening agent. But some countries have banned it from the skin care products due to the harmful effects on our health.

The prolonged and continued use of hydroquinone-based creams can make your face look like a grater. Your skin will be filled with abnormal pitch black with bumps. This kind of damage cannot be corrected. You just have to live with it.

The FDA's strict regulation on hydroquinone does not stop the manufacturers from marketing the alternatives to hydroquinone-based skin bleaching products. However, the unconventional choices do cost more due to the unusual natural ingredients. Moreover, you will have to wait a bit longer to see positive effects on your skin.

The Skin Research and Technology revealed that the penetration rate into the skin and the process of skin lightening with using using creams that contain niacinamide and vitamin C with ultrasound are better than the same ingredients without the ultrasound.

Before you buy over the counter skin lightening products such as gel, lotion, soap, pill, and serum, check the labels first. Under the federal law, all the ingredients must be printed on the product's box or container. If you can't find any ingredient on the label, then don't buy it. If mercury is listed, then avoid the product because it is toxic. You may experience skin rashes, irritation, and other changes to the skin.

Direct and prolonged exposure of mercury can pose health hazards such as severe damage to the nervous system, brain, and kidneys. It has been reported to cause birth defects. It is extremely toxic to unborn children. Pregnant women who use these creams may not experience symptoms of mercury poisoning but they endanger the fetuses which can lead to brain damage and other malformations.

If you experience symptoms of mercury poisoning such as irritability, tremors, or memory loss after using the products, then you should immediately see your doctor and request for mercury poisoning test.

Many victims are not aware that these skin lightening creams contain dangerous substances such as corticosteroids, steroids and hydroxyquinone. These harmful chemicals are commonly used to prepare skin whitening products.

Thanks for the info. You have stated some very relevant points for people to consider before skin lightening. Re products - natural will take longer, but it's definately the only way to go as chemical additives have too many negatives and should be avoided.
