Common Uses and Advantages of Small and Portable LCD Television Units
When a thing becomes smaller, a myriad of possible uses for it emerge. Just think of what you can do with a 7-inch portable LCD TV. It's pure entertainment wherever you are. It allows you to enjoy your favorite TV shows at home, at the park, while waiting for a friend in a coffee shop – basically every place you may be. But if you ask me, the best place would be in your bed. Just imagine when you're feeling lazy and you just want to stay longer in bed. Just reach for your portable LCD TV, switch it on, and you can watch the latest news while comfortably lying in your bed.
Now that's total entertainment and comfort combined.
But if you're not always on the go and you're the type of person who enjoys staying at home, a small LCD TV will be perfect for your lifestyle. You can easily find an ideal spot for a 15 to 24-inch LCD TV. You can prop one on top of your kitchen counter so you can watch while you're cooking. If you have a hobby room or a mini library, a 15-inch unit can keep you company all the time.
Don't let its small size fool you. A small LCD TV can still be the centerpiece of your home entertainment system, especially if you have a small space. You can conveniently hook it up with a DVD player and for great sounds, of course it has connections for your home theater system. With a small LCD TV it means there is no such thing as a limited space.
On a more technical advantage of an LCD TV, one is the reduced or sometimes even the complete absence of glare emanating from the screen. It can be attributed to the matte finish on the screen, unlike on the typical CRT TVs and plasma TVs that are composed of glass. What this means is you can place your LCD TV in a room with plenty of sunlight.
Disadvantages of Small LCD TVs
Some LCD TVs, especially with the cheaper units, experience some sort of motion blurring. It happens when the movement of the images projected on the LCD screen is too fast to be rendered, resulting in what looks like a blur. This effect is eliminated or at least lessened on higher quality LCD TV units.
Another disadvantage is the viewing angle. An LCD TV is ideally watched when you're exactly fronting it. The picture or viewing quality degrades as you move farther from the center.
And of course, LCD TVs do not come cheap. It is pricier compared to regular television units. You might say there are a lot of cheaper brands, even no-name units. Never fall for those LCD TVs. The build and picture quality are always poorer plus they often offer very limited warranties. Believe me, those units do not last long.
What Should You Look For When Buying a Small LCD TV?
First of all, don't let the price deter you. You get what you pay for, that's what they always say and LCD TVs from more established brands such as Samsung and Sony, although they don't come cheap, it always mean you're buying high quality units.
If you are going to use your LCD TV for more than just watching regular TV programming, look for a unit that has many connections for other gadgets. You can easily find one that has everything you need. Of course you will find less options if you're buying a portable LCD TV.
You must also consider the aspect ratio. The common ones are either 4:3 or 16:9. If you are going to watch more regular television shows, 4:3 is your best choice. But if you are more into watching DVDs or into high definition (HD) programming, the wider 16:9 fits just right.
