Karma and the ladder of life
Snakes and ladders is a spin off children board game but it is as serious as karma and the ladder of life. Chutes and ladders as it has come to be known by some finds it's roots in India and Hinduism.
There was in the second century BC a game called Vaikuntaapali or Parampada Sopanam which was very serious indeed as an educational tool. This early board game was not for the entertainment of children. The Hindu boardgame language was about discipline, virtue, and the development of the individual and a deep look into karma.
While the modern version of snakes and ladders is easy to learn by anyone with the most basic assessment skills it is also such a simple variation of the original board games that it is seldom played seriously.
Unless of course you are sitting at a Snakes and Ladders slot machine and risking serious money hoping that chance will favor you or that your karmic energy has drawn you to the right machine at the right time.
Hardly!!!!!!! Luck is for suckers.
The cycles of time
The adult version of snakes and ladders, the one that is defined above, the Hindu version of chutes and ladders explains the cycles of time and the effect of action on the direction of life.
It is ancient knowledge to the Hindu that life is about karma rules. It is about working towards Nirvana. The serpent is the devil or evil deeds and bad karma. The ladder of life is a giant leap towards Nirvanah and it is the karmic energy in overdrive. The rest of the squares of the board game are about just living in time in this dimension. Slow and steady wins the day.
Seek and ye shall find...
The picture above was found while i was looking for programming code used to write a computer program that generates a similated snakes and ladders boardgame.
The simplicity of that graphic is nothing like what the original game board looks like. In a world where you are trying to explain a duality between good an evil, between good deeds and bad deeds, the Hindu version of snakes and ladders is much more complex in design. It shows all types of astrological signs and symbols.
Each position on the board is about learning virtues and sin. A stop on a certain number may equate to faith, generosity, knowledge, or another virtue, or the opposite may apply; vanity, vulgarity, pride, murder, lust.
But i wasn't looking into the origins of snakes and ladders to find out about religious matters. My intention was to see how a different language such as the computer codes or dialects that are in use today could be used to program a robot to produce a simulated childs game.
Seek and ye shall find out what snakes are up to I guess....... knowledge is a strange thing and some people will give anything for it.....ask Faust.
